What you need to know as a tenant
You’ve probably already heard of the tenant fee ban, but what is it? When does it come into place? And how does it affect you as a tenant?
The Tenant Fee Act will come into effect on the 1st June 2019 and has been put into place by the government, banning both landlords and agents from charging a number of commonly used fees such as admin fees, credit checks and guarantor charges, and also capping tenancy deposits. The overall aim of which is to create a fairer and more affordable rental sector.
Whilst our administration process will stay the same, tenants will potentially save hundreds of pounds and have a better idea the price a property will cost them when thinking about applying.
If you’re already in an existing tenancy, this doesn’t apply to you right now. However, the ban will apply should you need to renew your tenancy. If you have applied for a property recently and have paid any such fees but your moving date is after the 1st June, these should be reimbursed to you.
